In an unfortunate incident, a resident of Kansas City, Missouri found three of his friends frozen to their death in his own backyard. The bodies remained in his backyard for two days, the friends had reportedly visited him to watch a Kansas City Chiefs‘ game and had met their untimely end shortly after. The resident had “no knowledge” about the condition of his friends.
As per the Kansas City Police Department, there is no suspicion of any foul play on the part of the friend. The deceased have been identified as 38-year-old Ricky Johnson, 36-year-old Clayton McGeeney, and 37-year-old David Harrington. The incident took place on the night of January 7th. The Chiefs were playing against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 18 of the regular season, a game which they won by a narrow margin of 1 point.
The Kansas City PD announced that the bodies of the three men were discovered on the 9th of January, two days after they had gone over to their friend’s. At around 9:51 PM, law enforcement discovered their bodies after one of the deceased’s beau requested a welfare check. Of the three bodies, one was found on the back porch of the home on 5200 Block of NW 83rd Terrace while the other two were found in the backyard.
The Kansas City Police Department are not suspecting any foul play in this incident
The cause for their deaths has been deemed to be that they froze to their end. The law enforcement officials confirmed that this is not a homicide. Captain Jake Becchina told Fox News Digital:
First and foremost, this case is 100% NOT being investigated as a homicide. There have not been any arrests or charges, and no one is in custody. There are no specific threats or concerns for the surrounding community at this time.Jake Becchina, the Police captain said
He further stated that the resident at whose house the three men froze has also been very helpful and that “the resident at the house was cooperative with detectives the day the deceased were discovered.” For now, the toxicology reports of the men are awaited in order to determine if there was any alcohol or drugs involved in the deaths of the men.
One of the neighbors expressed shock at this incident:
It's very scary because I heard nothing. I'm home most of the time, but I didn't hear anything. It's kind of disturbing. It makes you wonder what's going on. But if we don't know yet, could it have been CO? It got cold all of a sudden. One of the neighbors said
The kith and kin of the deceased are outraged over the incident and refuse to believe the homeowner had no clue about these deaths. Some of them reached out to the homeowner before the police were called to the scene. Kaylee La Tier wrote via a Facebook post:
This man was inside his home alive while my friends were dead in his yard for lord knows how long...he KNEW people were looking for them. He read messages of people searching for him on Tuesday.Kaylee La Tier on FB
The friend further alleged that her husband went out to the resident’s house but he did not respond even after he banged the door for 20 minutes. However, when the cops came, the resident was quick to come out.
