It’s hard to be a good footballer when you are constantly being compared to your peers. The pressure and demand can sometimes be too much, even for veterans of the game. Imagine being a rookie and starting your career with one of the divisional favorites.
Last year, when the Pittsburgh Steelers’ newest member, Kenny Pickett, made his debut, he must have had butterflies fluttering in his belly with excitement and horror. Now, just before the start of his sophomore year at Pittsburg, his teammate Levi Wallace has put even more pressure on him, comparing him to the Buffalo Bills’ star Josh Allen.
Wallace, a former Bills player himself, witnessed Allen’s rise through the ranks firsthand. He has an inkling of what it takes to become an elite quarterback. The 28-year-old played three full seasons with Allen before his trade to the Steelers. Now he is helping Kenny Pickett develop quickly and bring the best out of him.
A recent video has surfaced showcasing Pickett’s throwing ability. The number 8 can be seen hurling the ball up the field, accurately finding its target running through the channel.

Fans troll Levi Wallace for comparing Kenny Pickett with Josh Allen
It was undoubtedly very precise and strong, proving Pickett’s case of being one of the best throwers in the league. However, comparing him with two-time Pro Bowler Josh Allen is going a bit too far and putting unnecessary pressure on the 25-year-old. But Wallace has predicted a big jump in Pickett’s second year. Unsurprisingly, those who do not agree with the Steelers’ cornerback were quick to point out that Allen is miles ahead of Pickett.
Pickett’s first year as a Steeler wasn’t off to a flying start, as he was only a bench warmer behind Mitch Trubisky. His first appearance came against the Bills, as the Steelers took a 35-point pounding in Week 5. The following Sunday, he only managed 67 passing yards, and in Week 7 threw three interceptions.
However, Pickett’s fortune was about to change for the better. In his final eight games of the season, he threw just one interception. Even though the rookie had a rough beginning, his strong ending in 2022 will be the foundation on which he can build. Wallace definitely has faith in Pickett, hence the comparison with Josh Allen.
Besides Wallace, veteran defensive end Cam Heyward also has high praise for his young QB. “Anytime it wasn’t going his way, it never felt like he was out of sorts,” said Heyward while appearing on the 3 and Out Podcast. “He goes down and puts together a drive, and you just see here that it wasn’t just one person. He was feeding everyone.”
Kenny Pickett was 20th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft for the Steelers. If Pickett’s colleagues are to be believed, he will make a massive leap in 2023.
