Back when the whole world was in lockdown in 2020 due to Coronavirus, the NFL successfully completed a full football season thanks to their strict Covid-19 policies and safety measures. However, some people in the league didn’t take the virus seriously and were evenly speaking against the Covid-19 vaccine. One such player is the Minnesota Vikings QB, Kirk Cousins.
The Vikings QB Kirk Cousins once openly dismissed the dangers of the Coronavirus and claimed he’ll ride through the dangers if ever contradicted the virus. During a 2020 episode of Kyle Brandt‘s 10 Questions podcast, Cousins claimed he had made peace with catching the virus.
“I want to respect what other people’s concerns are. For me personally, just talking no one else can get the virus. What is your concern if you could get it? I would say I’m gonna go about my daily life. If I get it, I’m gonna ride it out. I’m gonna let nature do its course. Survival-of-the-fittest kind of approach. And just say, if it knocks me out, it knocks me out. I’m going to be OK. You know, even if I die. If I die, I die. I kind of have peace about that,” Cousins told Brandt.
The 4-time Pro Bowl QB, however, used to wear masks all the time, claiming it was just “about being respectful to other people” and had nothing to do with his personal opinions or views.
Kirk Cousins ended up getting the Coronavirus
The NFL had strict protocols and guidelines during the Covid-19 period. Players weren’t compelled to take the Corona vaccine, but there were stricter rules and curfew for the player who refused to get the vaccine shot.
Despite their strict rules, many players ended up contradicting the Coronavirus and the Vikings QB Kirk Cousins is one of them. Cousins refused to take the injection but was following the rules imposed by the league.
However, during the 2021 season, Cousins missed a crucial week 17 game against the Green Bay Packers after testing positive for Covid-19. Before that game, Cousins had never missed an NFL game due to an injury.
And again, during the 2022 pre-season, Cousins tested positive for the second time and missed a game against the Raiders. But fortunately, he only missed the pre-season and was available for the entire season. He threw for 4,547 yards and 29 touchdowns while completing 65.9% of his passes in the 2022 season and received a Pro Bowl nod.
