Kyle Shanahan‘s San Francisco 49ers suffered a humiliating loss against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game on Sunday. The much-anticipated game between two juggernauts ended up being a blowout game partly due to an injury to their rookie quarterback Brock Purdy. He was their third-string quarterback who had to step up to lead his team after Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo both went down with injuries.

Purdy became a rookie sensation and got named the finalist for the Offensive Player of the Year honor despite starting just six games in the regular season. So, with three top-tier quarterbacks on their roster, everybody knew the Niners had some tough decisions to make in the off-season no matter how their season. Now, it seems like the Niners would be going forward with their former last overall draft pick Brock Purdy and their former 1st round pick Trey Lance.

Jimmy Garoppolo is heading to unrestricted free agency in the upcoming NFL off-season and per 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, Garoppolo’s time with the Niners is seemingly over.

The 31-year-old QB started as the second-string quarterback for the Niners and after Trey Lance’s injury, he ended up playing in 11 games this season before he went down with a foot injury. During the 11 games, he threw for 2,437 yards and 16 touchdowns. He looked good during those games but unfortunately, he couldn’t escape his injury battles.

And now, he would probably be a well-sought-after QB in the free agency due to the lack of good quarterbacks in the league. The whole of the NFC South is in desperate need of a competent QB and so does many other teams in the league except the Niners who have two promising QBs in a rookie deal.

However, according to reports, Brock Purdy‘s arm injury which he suffered during the NFC Championship game is more serious than they first thought, which means Purdy could end up missing the next season. so the Niners might have to look for a veteran QB in the upcoming NFL offseason.
