“Won’t kill myself watching film”: Kyler Murray’s old statement about being ‘blessed’ is worthy of a revisit after “homework clause” controversy

Kyler Murray

Kyler Murray has made a name for himself at the highest level. The young quarterback signed a five year deal worth $230.5 million, which brings his salary to $46.1 million annually which is the second highest in the league after Aaron Rodgers $50.3 million.

The 24 year old had 24 touchdowns, threw for 3787 yards and 10 interceptions, those are pretty good numbers considering a 24 year old. A while ago, the Cardinals quarterback had stated that he believes that he doesn’t need to watch work films as he is blessed with the skills to go out there and just make it happen.

“I’m not one of those guys that’s going to sit there and kill myself watching film” – Kyler Murray

The supremely talented quarterback, as reported by ProFootballTalk, had stated an year ago that “I’m not one of those guys that’s going to sit there and kill myself watching film. I don’t sit there for 24 hours and break down this team and that team and watch every game because, in my head, I see so much.”

Everyone needs to analyze games to improve their skills, even the legendary Tom Brady does that. Murray is young and full of potential and to make that potential come to life he would need to improve himself dramatically and that can only be done when you know what you’re doing wrong.

If Murray fails to complete the mandatory 4 hours of homework he can lose up-to a $100 million dollars. Here is an excerpt of Murray’s contract. “Player shall not receive any credit for Independent Study with respect to any time periods during which any material is displayed or played on an iPad or electronic device if (a) Player is not personally studying or watching the material while it is being displayed or played or (b) Player is engaged in any other activity that may distract his attention (for example, watching television, playing video games or browsing the internet) while such material is being displayed or played.”

Some people have suggested that the Cardinals are being very strict with Murray but at the same time, in a way this is for his own good and he will see the changes in his game when applied.
