Starting the 2023 NFL season, there were many teams with a Super Bowl-contesting spirit, but not all of them could keep it alive. As the season approaches its end with the Super Bowl just around the corner, there are only two teams that have proven themselves as contenders: the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens.
Both teams are currently standing at an 11-3 season record, occupying the top seed in their respective conferences: the 49ers in the NFC and the Ravens in the AFC. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has built up a remarkably dominant squad consisting of two of the leading MVP contenders, Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey. Ravens have a strong squad led by quarterback Lamar Jackson.

However, the question is, who among these two has the upper hand? That will be decided in week 16, as the 49ers and Ravens are scheduled for a matchup on Monday.
As the two have often been paired together, quarterback Jackson doesn’t seem that worried. When asked if he considers the Monday Night Football game against the 49ers a Super Bowl preview, Jackson replied with a stern message.
The Super Bowl is in February. We’re in December right now. We have got to focus on Monday night. I'm not worried about what people say.Jackson said
The offensive engine of the Ravens is focusing more on the immediate future.
Also, it is not sure whether or not these two would make it to the Super Bowl. And when it comes to Ravens, they are well known for focusing on the present instead of worrying about the future. That’s what brought him their 11th consecutive victory over Jacksonville Jackson. And that’s what is going to lead them to the Super Bowl as well.
Brock Purdy and Lamar Jackson battle for MVP Honors
Interestingly, the Super Bowl race isn’t the only battle between these two contending teams. Both of their quarterbacks, Purdy and Jackson, are competing for the NFL MVP award, as they occupied the first and second spots in the race.

If analyzing their stats, Purdy is surely ahead of Jackson, as he is the frontrunner with the shortest odds of 190 to win the award. Jackson’s pass completion rates have been around 50–60%, while Purdy is leading with 70–80%. However, that’s just on paper. Many of the top analysts believe Purdy may win the award, but it’s Jackson who truly deserves it.
Ultimately, the majority of the decision will be based upon the outcome of the game, as it tests the quarterback’s adaptation to pressured and stressed situations.
