Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins was tragically killed last year when a dump truck struck him in Florida. He was 24 years old at that time and was a backup quarterback for the Steelers. A lawsuit was filed about the incident by Haskins’ family, which claims that a group of people drugged and robbed Haskins prior to his death.
The lawsuit also claims that the driver of the truck was speeding, driving carelessly, and had the weight of the cargo exceeding the required limits. Haskins was killed while he was walking on a South Florida Highway. According to reports, Haskins’ rental truck ran out of gas on the highway, which led to him standing on the highway. Toxicology reports suggest that Haskins was drunk over the legal limit of 0.8 allowed in Florida when he was struck by the truck.
The lawsuit alleges that Haskins was drugged and robbed by a man and three women before losing his life in the accident. According to AP, the settlements have been negotiated with several parties. Ten other defendants still remain in the case.
Haskins played for the Ohio State University, where he set several school passing records and MVP in both the Big Ten Championship game and in the Buckeyes’ Rose Bowl win over the Washington Huskies. He was drafted in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins (now the Washington Commanders). He signed with the Steelers in 2021.
Colin Cowherd recently disrespected Dwayne Haskins
Colin Cowherd, the host of the FS1 show The Herd, has said some bizarre things over the years. His latest controversial opinion involved the late Pittsburgh Steelers QB Dwayne Haskins. Haskins lost his life in a tragic road accident in April last year.
In a recent episode of his show, Cowherd mentioned the quarterbacks that can’t win Super Bowls. He mentioned players such as Daniel Jones and Baker Mayfield. These are the players that are still in the league. There was one name, though, that caused a lot of uproar on social media and that was Dwayne Haskins. Cowherd seems to have mistakenly put the late QBs name in the list of current quarterbacks.
For someone who has been in the media industry for 20 years now, this was an inexcusable blunder. Cowherd copped a lot of heat for this on various social media platforms and understandably so. Haskins was hit by a dump truck in April last year on a Florida highway. He was with the Steelers at that time as a backup to Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph.
