As if the day couldn’t get any worse for the Cleveland Browns, who lost 26-22 against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, they also risk playing the season without Nick Chubb. The All-Pro running back was carted off during the game and did not return to the field.

At the start of the second quarter, Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson took the snap and passed it to Chubb, who dashed toward 5 and goal but was brought down by a pack of Steelers players. The 27-year-old stayed down, holding his legs, and signaled to the bench that something was wrong. The medical team checked him and called for the cart. He was taken away immediately and ruled out for the rest of the night.

Chubb already had 64 yards on 10 carries before he injured what appeared to be his left knee. When he was down, players from both sides gathered for a fallen brother. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters after the game that they fear that the four-time Pro Bowler is quite possibly out for the season.

Football may be a contact sport, but no one wants to see a player’s season end with a horrible injury. Just after the news broke out, NFL players poured in wishes for Chubb’s speedy recovery. It wasn’t limited to just football players. Several notable personalities from other sporting genres also wrote get-well-soon messages on social media.

His injury shook the sporting world, and they are now with the running back in his dark time.

Steelers All-Pro Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who was involved in the tackles, was banged up quite badly. Thankfully, he was able to shake the jitters off and return to the play. However, Chubb’s case is very serious; he injured the same knee in 2015, tearing his MCL, PCL, and LCL.

The Cleveland Browns have a serious problem on their hands. Not only did they lose a starter but also one of the leaders in the locker room. It’s bound to take a toll on the players, but they have to get over it quickly as the Tennessee Titans come to town on September 24.
