LeSean McCoy adamant that the Browns shouldn’t regret paying $230,000,000 to Deshaun Watson despite a string of poor performances

Deshaun Watson, the quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, had a strong performance against the Baltimore Ravens last week. However, the season seems over for him as he suffered a displaced fracture on his right glenoid. The Browns have put him in the reserve squad and as things stand, there is no chance of him coming back.
In this context, a lot of analysts are batting their eyes on the money that the QB is charging. He presently holds a contract worth $230 million and has been irregular on the Browns roster. Hence, questions are popping up, about whether the Browns should be regretting the amount.
In the latest episode of Speak, analyst Emmanuel Acho asked the same question to LeSean McCoy. McCoy had his clear-cut answer. He believes that the Browns should not regret paying him a $230 million bag amid his poor performance.
I would say no. Deshaun was great there. He was allowed to play 12 games in two years. So there is not enough sample size to judge on his contract. He has not been playing up to that level of money. But he is still fresh. He has time. I know people get a contract and they do not deliver in the first year and they get upset. Well, give me a contract and see how I do other than the contract.
As a Browns quarterback, Watson did not have a cakewalk. If his first season was marred with controversies and suspensions, then his second is marred with injuries. Watson received an 11-game suspension following his spa scandal.
As reported by multiple sources, Watson met 66 women in massage appointments and more than two dozen women reported that the QB harassed them during those sessions. Following all those accusations, the NFL authority put an 11-game ban on him and also asked him to pay a $5 million fine.
Deshaun Watson had a difficult start to his Browns career
In two of his seasons so far with the Cleaveland franchise, Watson has only played 12 games. In his second year as the Browns’ QB, he suffered a major injury against the Indianapolis Colts. The signal-caller left the field and did not come back.
Now, he has again suffered a shoulder injury that has finished his hopes for the rest of the season. It is unsure when Watson will have a comeback.
However, Watson still has time to prove his worth. McCoy feels the same and attests to that by saying:
So, he has some time to deliver. I think that they have built a good team. They have a super amazing defense. They are running the ball pretty well. They are missing the quarterback. I do not want to lie to people, he hasn’t been playing great, but I think he’s slowly getting better.
Still, it doesn’t take away the fact that Watson’s further absence in this season is a huge blow to the Browns since they were trying to maintain a footing in the league. The game against the Ravens was a call to get back on track. However, without Watson, it looks very difficult for them.
