Athletes are the healthiest and most fittest individuals on the planet. While they make it look so easy and normal to just walk around throughout the year with a single-digit body fat percentage and a defined mid-section, often fans forget that their diet and supplementation have a great role to play in them being able to achieve this physique. Today, protein powders, creatine, BCAAs, amino, etc. have become staples for athletes of all sports as they are naturally available supplements that help in performance and recovery.


However, what if you were told that one of the greatest athletes to ever walk the face of this earth never relied upon external supplementation? It would be hard to believe, right? But it is true, Michael Phelps, the 23-time Olympic gold medal winner has not taken a supplement in his life, at least that is what JJ Watt testified to on the Pat McAfee Show.

The former defensive end said this regarding Michael Phelps:

Phelps has never taken a supplement in his life, no creatine, no aminos, no protein, nothing.

Watt is amazed by the fact that Phelps managed to stay at the peak of his sport and become the greatest swimmer ever without relying on any form of supplementation.

Watt goes on to add:

That guy dominated the world...0 whey protein, 0 creatine, nothing.

The man, the myth, the legend, Michael Phelps himself told this to JJ Watt and the defensive back’s first response to his answer was:

I don't believe you, I do not believe you.

Pat McAfee was equally shocked and had the same response as Watt.

It is pretty insane to think that Michael Phelps was able to reach his peak performance by just maintaining a diet consisting of whole foods. He does smoke weed and takes advantage of the THC content in it for recovering from his arduous workouts. Phelps has also stated previously that he used to consume up to 10,000 calories per day, which is nearly 4-times the average amount of calories consumed by mortals.


It is not just the diet and the THC consumption which has helped Michael Phelps but that man was handcrafted by God. He is genetically gifted as he is 6’6″ with broad shoulders and a wide upper body but when you look at his lower body, he has relatively short legs which is the perfect archetype for a swimmer. It is safe to say that Phelps used his build to its maximum potential and the fact that he did it with no supplementation, that is just amazing!
