In the NFL offseason, two running backs stole the spotlight. Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry. Both left their teams where they played for long and got themselves established and joined some other teams. Barkley was drafted by the Eagles to strengthen their squad and analysts believe that this will help the New York team to achieve big in the coming time.
In this context, a question is doing rounds of whether the Giants did some injustice to him by not giving him a contract extension. Despite a poor 2023 season from the New York Giants, Barkley performed well. He was one of the best players for the Giants during a blunderous of a season.
The contract extension was an issue for the Giants and the player. There were rumors that the two parties would start the contract extension talks, which would be fruitful, eventually. The Giants’ GM Joe Schoen was asked about the prospective deal. Schoen said that both parties were working to make the deal happen, however, that did not take place, and Barkley ended up with their NFC East rivals.
In this context, a question is doing rounds did the Giants really disrespected Barkley and his efforts by not offering him a contract? Analyst LeSean McCoy does not subscribe to that idea. He felt that the Giants did not insult but did a favor to the running back by letting him go.
How is this disrespectful? Let me tell you this, James if I do not want to pay you, I do not have to pay you. Every team does not like the way you play....Saquon getting more money on a better team. It ain't disrespectful. You did him a favor.McCoy noted in the latest episode of FS1’s Speak
McCoy was arguing with his co-panelist James Jones, who kept saying that Barkley had been disrespected by his former franchise. McCoy dismissed the claim.
The Eagles’ offense looks dangerous with the addition of Saquon Barkley
Despite last year’s failure, the Philadelphia Eagles threatened everyone with their efficiency in the first half of the season. The likes of Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, and DeVonta Smith had a devastating role in that phase. In addition, there is an inclusion of Saquon Barkley in the squad. Hence, analysts like Ryan Clark believe they can be heavy on their opponents.
Clark, in the latest episode of the show First Take, claimed that Barkley would change the dynamics of the Eagles. He would have more impact than Derrick Henry is supposed to have for the Baltimore Ravens. The attacking threat of the Eagles is expected to increase.
Despite strengthening the attack, the Eagles might suffer from defensive problems. Last season, they were exposed to defensive concerns. This year, they were expected to sign some defensive players. However, that did not happen. Hence, the defensive concern stays for the Eagles.
