The Kansas City Chiefs have set a standard for the rest of the NFL. The team has groomed its core players by drafting them and developing them into superstars. The Chiefs are the perfect epitome of a Super Bowl championship team. From the offense to the defense and coaching staff, the team is stacked with talent. While Head Coach Andy Reid rightfully deserves all the credit for the team’s victory, one has to also credit the assistant coaches, namely the offensive and defensive coordinators.

The Chiefs’ offense has been nothing short of dangerous this season and the team’s offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has been credited for strategizing and using the pieces available to him to the best of their talent. Despite losing Tyreek Hill, a key part of the offense last season, Bieniemy drew up excellent game plans all season long. He did not allow the team to feel the void left by Hill’s departure.

Due to his play-calling abilities and skill to maximize the potential of the players at his disposal, the Washington Commanders recently hired Eric Bieniemy. The team appointed him as the team’s offensive coordinator. While it was surprising to see the OC accept the job, it does give him a better opportunity to prove himself worthy of being in a Head Coaching role in the future.

LeSean McCoy believes Andy Reid was a more significant reason for the Chiefs’ success rather than Eric Bieniemy

However, while this move by the Commanders was hailed by fans and analysts, there are some who are not sure about this move. LeSean Shady McCoy, the former NFL running back, is one of those skeptics. Here’s the argument put forth by McCoy: “What’s his value? What makes him a good offensive coordinator?…the problem is a lot of guys go on social media and say, ‘Oh, he should be the guy for the job.’ They haven’t played there, they not in the locker rooms.”

McCoy played for the Kansas City Chiefs and as a result, he knows what it is like to be coached by Bieniemy. He elaborates upon his personal experience under the OC. “I’ve been in the rooms where he’s coaching. He has nothing to do with the passing game at all. When the play are designed, that’s Andy Reid...When asked about Eric Bieniemy, what makes him good? He has no real responsibility. Now you go from the Chiefs…to the Washington Commanders, and now he has to run meetings and call plays.

LeSean McCoy credits Andy Reid more than Eric Bieniemy, but he is not sure about this move. During his time at Kansas City, it was Andy Reid’s show more than Bieniemy’s, but only the players in the locker room know that.

McCoy, however, does wish nothing but the best for Bieniemy. “I’m rooting for him because he is a Black coach and I love to see Black coaches win. He is a running backs coach and RB coaches never get the chance to be OCs. I want that to do well for him.” There is only one way to find out if Bieniemy was the secret behind the Chiefs’ success or if it was all Andy Reid. Fans have to wait and watch!
