“What example does it set for our children,” Lightning Strike Victims org furiously call out Drew Brees for ‘inappropriate’ and ‘disgusting’ method of promotion
Drew Brees is considered a legend of the game and was one of the best QBs during his playing years. The former QB had an extensive career with the New Orleans Saints, where he even won a Super Bowl with them.
Brees’ time with the Saints helped him to get a huge fan following who adored the former QB for his playing style. This led him to get many advertisements in his career.
Recently, Brees, in association with a sportsbook brand, pulled off an atrocious marketing stunt that involved him getting struck by lightning. The plan was to make people believe it was true just to promote a betting website and their new lightning ‘deal’.
In a video posted on Twitter, Brees is seen being struck by fake lightning in Venezuela, where lightning strikes are pretty common. After he is struck by lightning the camera blacks out.
The former Saints QB was called out for his insensitive publicity stunt, where he made fun of a deadly and lethal way to die. Lightning Strike and Electric Shock Survivors International is an organization that provides support for all lightning strike victims and is prevalent in more than 13 countries.
The organization recently came out with its honest opinion on the situation and they are heartbroken as where around 240,000 people die each year was made fun of.
“The recent Drew Brees lightning commercial is an inappropriate, disgusting method of promoting gambling or any TV commercial campaign,” a statement from LSESSI says.
Drew Brees gets educated by LSESSI for making fun of a deadly injury
Drew Brees’ reputation has taken a massive hit after this controversy and many fans have started to call out the former NFL QB for his insensitive and inhumane approach to marketing a particular product.
The LSESSI called out Brees for trying to make fun of a gruesome injury where hundreds of thousands die each year. It is impossible to find enjoyment in these situations.
“This is a deadly injury, and it is disappointing to see the continual ridicule of lightning and electrical injury survivors in comical light in which it is presented for commercial gain and profit.” The organization stated. “To poke fun at these folks and make this injury trivial is unacceptable, and what example does it set for our children to learn?”
Drew Brees hasn’t yet apologized or commented on this situation. The same goes for the betting company PointsBet USA, which come up with this marketing gimmick.
The retired QB has faced a lot of heat these past few days, but not as much as his former team, the New Orleans Saints, who are currently last in their division and fighting for survival as they face the Bucs in their next game.
