Jared Goff’s career finally looks to have picked up steam with the Detroit Lions. The 28-year-old has made a name for himself after a string of decent performances for the Lions this season, in which he led the franchise to a winning finish.

Although the Lions failed to get into the playoffs, their season was viewed as an overall success after their final-week victory against the mighty Green Bay Packers. Goff led his franchise to a double over his opposite number Aaron Rodgers, with the Lions winning by a 20-16 margin.

These performances over the season have convinced Lions general manager, Brad Holmes that the former Rams quarterback is the man to lead the franchise forward in the upcoming season as well. Holmes confirmed the fact that Goff will be their starting QB for the next season but did not rule out bringing in a “good player” from the 2023 NFL draft.

“I think it’s a lot easier to get worse at quarterback than to get better in this league,” Holmes said during his end-of-season news conference. “So, I think what Jared has done this year, he captained the ship of a top-3 offense, and he was top-10 statistically in most of the passing categories.

“And again, you know how we approach the draft,” he added. “We’re never going to turn down a good football player. If it’s a football player we love, we’re going to make sure every stone is turned. But I do think that Jared has proven to everybody that he is the starting quarterback for us.”

Coming into the starting setup for the Lions, Goff led the Lions to eight wins out of their final 10 regular season games. He ended up with an impressive 65.1 per cent pass completion rate, raking up a total of 4438 yards over the entirety of the season.

Goff too expressed his love for the franchise, claiming that he has absolutely loved his time at Detriot since 2021. Although he hasn’t received any updates from the back office yet regarding his future, if the season-end press conference is anything to go by, he is all set to extend his stay at Detroit for another season at least if not more.
