There are lots of controversies surrounding the QB room of the New England Patriots. The locker room is reportedly split between Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe. Furthermore, some reports suggested that the Pats’ head coach Bill Belichick is not happy with the 24-year-old quarterback Jones. Amidst this situation, some of the Patriots players claim that Jones has been ‘energized’ by Belichick’s decision to hire Bill O’Brien as the offensive coordinator.

According to NFL insider Mike Giardi, Mac Jones’ teammates have revealed that the Pro Bowl signal-caller has shown a positive response to Bill O’Brien’s hiring. Jones is now “Confident, Leading like we know he can,” according to the Patriots players. Additionally, Jones is reportedly ready to show the media and the fans why he was a playoff QB in his rookie campaign.

Mac Jones had an excellent start to his professional career back in 2021 as he registered 3801 passing yards and 22 passing TDs while completing 67.6% of his passes. His excellent numbers led to him receiving his first Pro Bowl nod, and he also ended up a finalist in the OROY voting.

However, his second year in the league saw a dip in his production as he battled injuries and a coaching change in New England. Jones was visibly upset with the offensive coach Matt Patricia during a regular season game last season. Nevertheless, Jones will now work under O’Brien, who helped Tom Brady build a legacy with the Pats.

Bill O’Brien worked in the Patriots coaching staff for five years from 2007-11. And now, after a couple of head coaching stints with Penn State and Houston Texans, O’Brien is returning to New England to work under Bill Belichick.

The 24-year-old signal-caller Mac Jones almost lost his starter role in New England after Bailey Zappe showed tremendous potential in every chance he got during the 2022 regular season. However, the Patriots will not quickly move on from the young QB Jones, who lead them to a postseason run in 2021. Jones will have an opportunity to take control of his team completely in the upcoming season.

According to some reports, the QB battle is still on between Bailey Zappe and Mac Jones since some Pats players prefer Zappe over the former Alabama QB. However, Jones now has an advantage over Zappe and will look to capitalize on it.

Anyhow, Mac Jones will probably be the starting QB of the Patriots in week 1 of the 2023 season. However, if Jones isn’t careful, he might end up losing his job to Zappe, who is patiently waiting for his chance to shine again.
