Matthew Stafford’s season ends abruptly as the Los Angeles Rams place QB on IR
Matthew Stafford has been placed on the injury reserve list and is out for a minimum of 4 weeks.
The Los Angeles Rams cannot catch a break this season. The team is not looking like the squad that went to the Super Bowl and won it all. With injuries plaguing the team this season, the latest member of the squad to get injured is QB Matthew Stafford. The latest injury is a massive blow to the team as defensive-end Aaron Donald is also out for the game against the Seahawks this Sunday.
The Los Angeles Rams announced that the quarterback is being placed on the injury reserve list. He has not played a game since his neck injury in the team’s Week 11 loss to the New Orleans Saints, a game which he could not finish as he left to be evaluated for a concussion. HC Sean McVay stated that Matt Stafford’s legs were numb after he took a hit in the game.
Matt Stafford had just been cleared two days prior to the game against the Saints from concussion protocol after he first entered it on the 8th of November. The present issue for the quarterback is despite being cleared from the league’s brain injury protocol, issues relating to his neck are keeping him away from making a return to the field.
What does Matthew Stafford’s injury mean for the Los Angeles Rams?
Any player who is placed on IR will be out for 4 weeks, minimum. Following this, they can make a return to the field. With just 6 games left to go this season for the Rams, they need Stafford more than ever. With their disappointing 3-8 record this season, they sit at the bottom of the NFC West as we speak.
In Matthew Stafford’s absence, John Wolford will take over the starter’s role and will face his first challenge against the Seattle Seahawks later today. The injury gods have been brutal on the Rams this season as they have missed Cooper Kupp, who has undergone surgery on his ankle and even Aaron Donald is out.
The team is truly dealing with a Super Bowl hangover and the road ahead does not look bright for them. Head Coach Sean McVay told reporters that Matt Stafford would play again this season irrespective of the Rams’ record. “Matthew’s the ultimate competitor, in a lot of instances(the) best thing that you can do is protect him from himself. I know him. If there’s any inkling that he can play, this guy’s going to want to play. Now(there is a) possibility that we say, ‘Based on what we’re gathering, the doctors, those types of things, the smart thing is not play you…but he’s going to want to play.”
We wish nothing but a speedy recovery to Matthew Stafford, the Los Angeles Rams and the NFL is much more exciting to watch with him on the field.
