“Knocking some rust off”: Matthew Stafford stars throwing at camp amid elbow concerns

The LA Rams won the Superbowl earlier this year but it seems a long time back as it was the last time we saw NFL football. So it’s a good thing that they have started training camp for a season where they hope to repeat and become one of the very few teams to win the Lombardi back to back.

The Quarterback who took the Sean McVay coached team to the pinnacle, is not at his peak. Matthew Stafford the former no.1 overall pick who last season proved he had what it takes to win it all, currently has an elbow issue with his throwing arm which required anti-inflammatory shot during the offseason.

With training comes throwing which Stafford has started in the camp as reported by Mike Florio. Coach Sean McVay has the QB on a pitch count to make sure the Rams #9 doesn’t overdo it.

Coach Sean McVay has told reporters that the pitch count didn’t stop Stafford from being able to do anything in the camp. There may have been some changes made to reduce stress on the elbow, Stafford said the changes are “fluid.”

Elbow is an integral part of the throwing mechanics, so although not a serious cause of concern it is better to have a fully healed QB at helm for the defending champs. Stafford has been known to perform great even when injured but Rams don’t want to take that chance with their prized asset.
