Stephen A. Smith is a well-known NFL analyst and talk show host and is popular for his television show First Take. He has a lot of celebrities over for his series and there are heated debates happening on a wide range of topics.

However, it is very rare that we have seen Stephen A. Smith lose his cool or blast out in frustration during these high-intensity arguments. Even with Jay Williams or Will Cain, Smith has gotten into heated talks, but it has never ended badly.

But there was one case wherein Stephen A. Smith was about to burst out and he revealed this recently in an appearance on the Draymond Green Podcast for The Volume. He said that Terrell Owens’ racist comments forced him to lose his calm.

Smith has said that there have been hardly any times when he has lost his cool on television. However, he recalls one incident wherein Terrell Owens joined him and Max Kellerman on the First Take show. Here Owens responding to Smith’s criticism of Colin Kaepernick had said, “Max almost seems blacker than you.”

This is the one time I almost, almost lost it. When T.O. came on the air and said that Max seemed Blacker than me,” Smith said. “Now, I addressed it on the air, but where it almost got dicey…It took everything in me not to go all in”.

Addressing the incident, Stephen A. Smith said that he could’ve reacted in a very adverse way to Owen’s comments, but he stopped himself from doing so. Smith added that he was about to go ‘medieval’ after hearing that comment and a different element of him could’ve come out then.

“Let’s be very, very clear, I’m sorry if it offends anybody or anything like that, when it comes to what I do for a living, which is television and debate and stuff like that, I ain’t gonna lie, I think I’m the best on the planet,” Smith said. “When [T.O.] walked into that lion’s den, I had to remember my humanity…there are things I could have brought up, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. But that was the closest I had ever come to getting medieval. There was a different element that was about to come out of me, but I stopped myself.”
