Former Wide Receiver and Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin expressed his opinion on Brock Purdy’s magical first career start in the NFL. The last pick in the 2022 NFL draft was lights-out in his first career start as he went for 185 passing yards and 3 total TDs.
Speaking on First Take with Stephen A. Smith, Dan Orlovsky, and Molly Qerim, Irvin compared Purdy with the GOAT Tom Brady. “He had Tom Brady vibes,” said Irvin. Irvin went on to say that the 49ers’ system works perfectly and he thinks they can go all the way to the Superbowl with Brock Purdy as their quarterback. Stephen A. Smith was quick to stop Irvin from getting on the Niners bandwagon, reminding him that he already picked the Cowboys to go the Superbowl from NFC.
Irvin swiftly pointed out that he did not say that the Niners will beat the cowboys but was simply stating that the Niners are a talented enough team to get to the Superbowl. “I am not saying that the Niners are beating the Cowboys, but I am saying they got a talented enough team to get to the Superbowl,” said Irvin.
The Niners (9-4) are currently holding the 1st place in the NFC West division and are all but guaranteed a playoff spot. While this Niners team is stacked with talent all across the field, their Super Bowl hopes ultimately come down to how well Mr. Irrelevant can play.

Brock Purdy makes history in his First NFL Start
The San Francisco 49ers obliterated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, beating them by 28 points. Rookie Quarterback Brock Purdy made history as he became the First NFL QB to beat Tom Brady in his first career start.
The Iowa State quarterback was selected as the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He started the season as the 3rd string quarterback behind Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo. Purdy started his first NFL game against the Buccaneers on Sunday after Lance and Garoppolo both went down with injuries.
Purdy impressed everyone with his stellar performance, completing 16-of-21 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76.2% of his passes. He made history as he became the First QB to beat Tom Brady in his first career start.
While the injuries keep mounting in the Niners camp, Mr. Irrelevant has given some hope to the Niners’ faithful in keeping their Super Bowl dreams alive.
The San Francisco 49ers and Brock Purdy will look to continue their dominance and extend the team’s 6-game winning streak when they face their NFC West division rivals Seattle Seahawks this Thursday.
