He revealed alongside his daughter on Thursday that his daughter Isabella had been diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of 19. The duo chose to reveal the information on GMA, with Robin Roberts interviewing them.
Isabella told her story in front of millions, revealing the first time she began to suspect that something was wrong.
I didn't notice anything was off till probably like October 1. That's when I definitely noticed headaches, nausea, couldn't walk straight. She said
Things got worse by the day, and it got to a point where Michael Strahan’s daughter began to loathe waking up as she was continuously throwing up.
Isabella has been diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor that is found in children. Her first assumption was that she had vertigo, but as time passed, the symptoms got worse, and it reached a breaking point when she began to throw up blood.
I was throwing up blood. I was like, 'Hm, this probably isn't good.' So I texted my sister, who then notified the whole family. She further added
Michael Strahan’s daughter Isabella is now safe and healthy
At this point, Michael Strahan ensured that his daughter, who is studying at the University of Southern California, underwent a thorough health checkup.
Strahan expressed his gratitude to the medical professionals who helped diagnose his daughter’s condition at an early stage and help her through it.
Thank goodness for the doctor. I feel like this doctor saved her life because she was thorough enough to say, ‘Let’s do the full checkup. She calls me and she’s like, ‘You need to head to Cedars-Sinai right now. I’m gonna meet you there.
Strahan stated
She underwent an MRI, and then the doctor advised him to take Isabella to one of the top medical centers in the country.
He found out about his daughter’s condition before her and described that moment as one that “didn’t feel real.” He was in New York at the time of finding out, and the first thought that came to his mind when he heard this was that he needed to get to Los Angeles at the earliest.
The experience was horrific and understandable.
Scary because it's still so much to go through. And the hardest thing to get over is to think that she has to go through this herself.Strahan described
Even though they had access to the best medical professionals, as a parent, such news is bound to leave one shaken. To see their child go through this hell and attempt to understand what the child is going through mentally is heartbreaking for a parent.
Isabella underwent emergency surgery to remove the tumor and has recently finished radiation therapy. That is, 30 sessions spread over six weeks. She was ecstatic that she had finished her treatment.
I got to ring the bell yesterday, it was great. It was very exciting. That’s my next step. I’m ready for it to start and be one day closer to being over.
Isabella said.
She is now scheduled to start chemotherapy next month. Isabella is remaining optimistic despite all the hardships. Her mindset is laudable; she is in no way viewing this as a setback and is looking forward to returning to college.
I'm looking forward to getting back to college and moving back to California and just starting my school experience over. Not over, but just restarting, being back into a routine and something that's enjoyable. She further added
For Michael Strahan, he is relieved his daughter is in safe hands and that she will be okay.
Moreover, the legendary defensive end of the New York Giants is in awe of how Isabella has handled the entire situation.
I literally think that in a lot of ways, I'm the luckiest man in the world because I've got an amazing daughter. I know she's going through it, but I know that we're never given more than we can handle and that she is going to crush this.He said
It is good to see that Isabella is on the road to recovery.
