On Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers, led by Mason Rudolph, suffered a brutal loss against the AFC East champions, the Buffalo Bills in their wildcard weekend. Following the loss, the Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin abruptly left the press conference following a reporter’s question about his future in Pittsburgh.
During the post-game presser, ESPN reporter Brooke Pryor asked the Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin about his potential contract extension since he only has one year left in his current deal.
Mike, you have a year left on your contract. . . .Brooke Pryor asked Tomlin
However, before Pryor could finish her question, Tomlin abruptly stormed off the podium. It seemed like Tomlin absolutely didn’t want to talk about his contract extension in the press conference, especially after suffering a heartbreaking loss against the Buffalo-based football team on Monday. Check out the footage attached below.
The veteran head coach still has one more year left in his contract. In the past, Tomlin never faced a situation like this since he would always get a new deal with a lot of time still left in his old deal. But, now, the 51-year-old veteran has just one year to make a decision.
During the 2025 head coach hiring cycle, Tomlin would be hit free agency and many teams would be ready to pounce on the opportunity and rope in him as their franchise leader.
Mike Tomlin has been with the Steelers for the last 17 years and he never had a losing season during his time in Pittsburgh. However, Tomlin has a poor 8-10 record in the postseason, which has been concerning the Steelers fans.
Steelers HC Mike Tomlin opens up about loss to the Bills
Following the heartbreaking loss against the Bills in the wildcard game, the Steelers’ head coach, Mike Tomlin, addressed the media and talked about his team losing the game. Tomlin said turnovers cost them the game and credited the Bills’ coaching staff over their preparations.
We talked about quarterback mobility, and what he and they are capable of. Probably not the story of the game was the mobility, but the turnover component. Got to do better.Mike Tomlin told the reporters
The Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph threw one interception in the endzone and their wide receiver George Pickens also fumbled the ball once. On the other side, the Bills were disciplined and didn’t turn over the ball once in the entire game.
As a result, the Bills ended up winning the game and advanced to the divisional round, where they will host the Kansas City Chiefs in an exciting playoff game.
