NFL fans are on cloud nine as Dan Snyder agrees to sell the Washington Commanders to 76ers owner John Harris and NBA legend Magic Johnson. The franchise is being sold for a whopping $6.05 billion and is not exclusive yet. The deal also hasn’t been signed, but reports suggest the takeover is going to happen 100 percent.
ESPN journalist Mina Kimes talked about the Commanders being under new leadership and what it means for the NFL now that Dan Snyder isn’t a part of it anymore. “It is massive,” Kimes said. “I mean we are not talking about turning of a page here, we are talking about the closing of a book that will go down as one of the most shameful records of any owner in any professional sports.”
“With Daniel Snyder, we are talking about an owner who oversaw a culture in Washington that was toxic and predatory. This is widely reported on and investigated. Who is being accused of directly facilitating that culture, was being accused of sexual assault himself.”
The league faced a lot of backlash for allowing Dan Snyder to continue being a team owner after the waves of scandals and controversy surrounding the owner and the organization. With Snyder selling the Commanders, the league and its fans can expect to be rid of these constant scandals and hope the franchise takes a turn for the better.

Dan Snyder’s ownership was full of scandals and controversies
Dan Snyder bought the Washington Commanders from the estate of former owner Jack Kent Cooke in 1999. Snyder’s ownership has been filled with scandals and controversies and the team hasn’t formed well on the gridiron as well. The Commanders have a record of 164-220-2 in the regular season and 2-6 in the playoffs.
Back in 2020, The Washington Post released a series of articles detailing all the wrongdoings of Dan Snyder and the senior executives. A total of 40 women had accused Snyder and the execs of sexual misconduct and creating a hostile workplace environment.
The House Committee on Oversight and Reform was set up to investigate the charges against Snyder. The committee found out that the owner paid “hush money” to former employees so that they won’t go public about their history of working with the Commanders.
Additionally, Dan Snyder was also investigated for financial discrepancies. As per the ESPN report, the 58-year-old businessman is said to have dirt on team owners as well as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and he used that information over their heads for a long time.
With Snyder officially selling his team in a few weeks, the league will finally be rid of an owner who promoted toxicity in the organization and gave the NFL a bad rep.
