A milestone moment has happened in NFL history with Los Angeles Chargers star Justin Herbert becoming the highest-paid quarterback in the league’s legacy. The Chargers have offered Herbert a five-year, $262.5 million contract extension.
In a stunning deal which will see Justin Herbert surpass Lamar Jackson, it includes $133.7 million in full guarantees and $193.7 million in injury guarantees. He will be having an annual average salary of $52.5 million. “Justin Herbert’s five-year extension includes $133.7 million fully guaranteed, $193.7 million with the injury guarantee and springing potentially to $218.7 million guaranteed. Total new guarantees: 185 million,” reported Adam Schefter.
“There are a lot of big numbers in this big deal for Justin Herbert. Here’s one: In Year 1, Herbert get $100M, topping the previous high of $80M. Herbert also gets $218.7M in guarantees on his 5-year, $262.5M extension,” said Ian Rapoport.
Former Chiefs player Mitchell Schwartz ruthlessly trolls Justin Herbert
After the deal was finalized, the Los Angeles Chargers posted a tribute video of Justin Herbert’s time till now with the franchise. They posted the video on their social media platforms with the caption – “QB1 of 1”.
However, it seems former Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Mitchell Schwartz isn’t completely in agreement with the Los Angeles Chargers’ judgement of Justin Herbert. Schwartz replied to the tweet by saying –“At losing 27-point playoff leads?” as a question to roast Chargers’statement.
This has been said by Schwartz in reference to the NFL Wild Card round game of the Los Angeles Chargers against the Jacksonville Jaguars last season wherein they were handed a pretty stunning defeat after being significantly ahead in the game.
The Chargers were ahead 20-0 at halftime courtesy of four interceptions by Trevor Lawrence. However, the Jaguars came roaring back and most of the blame fell on Justin Herbert and the offense who mustered up just three more points. The Jaguars went on to win the game 31-30. Justin Herbert has seven years under contract with the Los Angeles Chargers as he still has two years left on his rookie deal.
