The New England Patriots will begin a new chapter in franchise history. This will be the first draft in over 24 years in which Bill Belichick will not be present to pick the next star for the team. There are a lot of positions the Patriots need to consider filling, but the team’s woes at the quarterback position indicate that will be the team’s primary focus in the draft.

For owner Robert Kraft, having the third pick in the draft is a first in nearly 3 decades. But historically, the last time the Pats had a top 5 pick, they drafted Willie McGinest, who went on to be a hall-of-fame linebacker in the NFL. The Patriots need to revamp their offense. HC Jerod Mayo will need to choose if he can rely upon Mac Jones or Bailey Zappe to be the team’s quarterback and utilize the team’s first-round pick to draft an elite wide receiver.

Our team has a tremendous opportunity to position itself right.

The Patriots can leverage their unique position in the draft to orchestrate a trade which will get them key pieces which they require. But considering the team is having a fresh start this year, it is only right that they make full use of their draft position.

The New England Patriots are in desperate need of a reliable quarterback

The Patriots know one thing, without a good coach and a good quarterback, it is impossible to perform in the NFL. The team was blessed to have the greatest head coach of all time and the greatest QB of all time for over a decade, but now they face uncertainty in those two spots. While Robert Kraft is certain that Jerod Mayo is the man for the coaching job, he remains skeptical about his team’s quarterback situation. With options such as Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and Michael Penix Jr. to name a few, the team has to be tempted to consider drafting a new QB.

ESPN‘s analysts believe Drake Maye is a lock to go to the Patriots. Devin McCourty, former safety for the team has also vouched for the team to go with Maye with their pick in the draft. Despite their need for a quarterback, the Patriots could decide to utilize their draft pick on another diamond, Marvin Harrison Jr. The wide receiver is the most pro-ready player in this class and is bound to have an immediate impact on whichever team he lands up in.

Robert Kraft could decide to trade for an existing quarterback in the NFL who gives them a better chance at being consistent and competent. With Harrison Jr. there will be a renewed sense of excitement in the building at Gillette Stadium. For a team like New England, they are looking to bring in a QB who will be the future of this team, the team is still looking for a viable successor to Tom Brady. So unless they are 100?% certain about a player, it would make no sense to draft a QB.
