The New York Jets appear to be in a revamp mode as the team’s roster will look significantly different when the 2023 NFL season commences. However, in addition to their roster, one of the team’s players will also be looking rather different the next time we see him don a Jets jersey. Offensive tackle Mekhi Becton will not be easy to identify when he sets foot on the field, as he is no longer a hefty man weighing 400 pounds.

The New York Jets drafted Becton 11th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft and has played a total of 15 games for the team since. He was drafted out of Louisville and has played just one game in the last two seasons due to injuries. Mekhi Becton is a big man, he is 6-foot-7 and weighed nearly 400 pounds a couple of years ago.

While offensive tackles need to be built big, Becton’s weight may have held him back from playing at his best. Weighing that much does take its toll on the knees and joints, which leaves players more susceptible to injuries.

Mekhi Becton has had a hard time staying healthy

So was the case with Becton, who re-injured his surgically repaired right knee last year in August during training camp. This injury kept him out of the 2022 NFL season. Since he had to end up spending a lot of time rehabbing and recovering, the offensive tackle made a wise decision and decided to use this downtime to shed some pounds off of his tall frame.

Mekhi Becton has lost almost 50 pounds and is looking a lot leaner. The OT shared images of his body transformation and he looks remarkable after his weight-loss journey. Becton looks a tad bit unrecognizable. His frame now resembles that of a tight end rather than an OT. This move will help him to increase his speed on the field and, in general, is a healthy choice made by him as it will reduce his risk of injuries as well.

Fans on Twitter could not help but appreciate his hard work and dedication. Take a look.

Was fat*. Not anymore.

He could use this frame to his advantage. If he is strong and quick enough, he’d be a force to reckon with.

This is Mekhi Becton, not Tim Tebow.

The before and after images look significantly different, hard to believe it’s just 50 pounds.

His knee has been an issue, but his decision to slim down was the best for his joints.

He did a proper body composition, did not just lose fat but built a bit of muscle as well.

Mekhi Becton needs to figure out a way to stay healthy. If he manages to do that, he has a lot to offer the Jets’ offensive line. Nevertheless, his transformation is commendable!
