“We don’t have to pay our people to play with our people”: Deion Sanders responds to Nick Saban’s allegations

Deion Sanders

Jackson State paid a guy a million dollars last year that was a really good Division I player to come to school. It was in the paper. They bragged about it. Nobody did anything about it,” said claimed. As expected, as soon as he made the allegations, a lot of people were left shellshocked.

Although Saban didn’t name the player, it was quite obvious he was talking about Travis Hunter. This is because rumors were already flying about Hunter signing a multimillion-dollar NIL deal with Barstool Sports. Coach Sanders refuted all the allegations. “I was & awakened by my son Shedeur Sanders that sent me the article stating that WE PAYED Travis Hunter Jr a Million to play. We as a PEOPLE don’t have to pay our PEOPLE to play with our PEOPLE,” he wrote on Twitter.

Earlier as well, Sanders had categorically denied all the rumors about the alleged deal. “A million and a half? I heard a million in a half. I heard Dave Portnoy from Barstool. That’s the biggest lie I’ve ever heard,” Sanders had said as reported by the Clarion Ledger.

You know what that is? That means we kicked you butt, we took what was ours, and now you’ve got to make up an excuse why. Ain’t nobody getting no million and a half. I wouldn’t pay my son a million and a half in NIL. How am I going to coach a guy making more than me?” he had stated.

This controversy has really garnered public attention. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
