“Nothing less than a suspension is accepted,” Rich Eisen furious over fatal cut block knee injury to Kayvon Thibodeaux
The preseason game between the Giants and the Bengals was an interesting affair, but the highlight of the game has to be the tackle made on Giants rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux by Bengals TE Thaddeus Moss. The rookie was cut-blocked by the opposing TE and went down instantly while grabbing his knee.
Many NFL analysts went on to call the tackle a dirty play and even asked for a penalty, hefty fine and suspension for the Bengals TE. The tackle surely looked dirty if we look at it from behind but after further investigation, it was found out that the tackle was deemed ‘fair play’ according to the rule book.
Several NFL players pointed out the legitimacy of the tackle on Kayvon Thibodeaux and even the Giants coach agreed on the matter. “Anytime you see someone on the turf, regardless of how they got here, it’s hard as a coach to watch a guy go down … That’s the rules. They allow [the block],” Giants coach Daboll said. “We do it as well with tight ends and full backs going back to the line of scrimmage. You have to do a good job playing that block, but rules are the rules.”
