On August 10, Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs learned about his prison sentence, and O.J. Simpson isn’t too thrilled with the verdict. The retired NFL player complained that “the math is not adding up to me.” Almost two years ago, on November 2, 2021, Ruggs allegedly killed a woman named Tina Tintor and her dog by crashing into them. A Las Vegas court stated that the 24-year-old was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter, a misdemeanor.
Simpson, who’s no stranger to Vegas courts himself, was amazed to hear that Ruggs only got a maximum 10-year prison sentence. He took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and expressed that “math not adding up,” despite graduating from college with a sports scholarship. “You’re driving a car roughly 160 MPH on a public street. You kill a girl and her dog. [And] you get three to 10 years,” O.J. Simpson said. Then the disgraced Hall of Famer proceeds to compare Ruggs’ case with his.
“You go to a hotel room. Where you’re invited to retrieve your own stolen property,” he said. “Property I now have because it was ruled to be mine by the state of California, and you get nine to 33 years?” The 76-year-old was hinting at his 2008 court verdict. Simpson was allegedly an accomplice in an armed robbery case in Vegas, for which he was sentenced to 33 years in prison.
Last week, Alvin Kamara, and now Henry Ruggs
There have been a string of criminal convictions for NFL players in the last few days. Henry Ruggs is the latest football player to spend time in jail. Before the announcement of his sentence, the former first-round pick received bail after paying $150,000. However, he was barred from leaving his house, according to the New York Times.
Following the arrest, the Las Vegas Raiders released Ruggs. He played seven games last season, had 469 receiving yards, and scored two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara received a three-match ban for assaulting a man outside a Las Vegas nightclub on February 5, 2022. Kamara pleaded guilty, and the court reduced his sentence. However, he must complete 30 hours of community service and pay a $500 fine. Moreover, he has to pay more than $100,000 in medical expenses to the victim, Darnell Greene. It seems that what happens in Vegas does not always stay in Vegas.
