Following the less-than-quiet split with Kim Kardashian, NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. took a familiar face to date. It was none other than his mother, Heather Van Norman.

When most doors close, the only door one can knock on is to their parents’ home. Beckham headed the call, and after breaking up with Kim, the veteran wide receiver rang his mom, Heather.

The pair went to watch Drake perform at the USB Arena in New York. He shared some candid shots, which included a picture with the ‘know yourself’ composer.

Among them was a message aimed perhaps at both his failed relationships with past girlfriends and his ongoing struggle to find a new NFL team. It read:

Remember who stood by your side as you rebuilt yourself. Those are your people.

It was supposed to be a feel-good post, Beckham, but somehow ended up being a subject of controversy. For once, it wasn’t the former Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Rams playmaker, but rather Heather. Or, to put it bluntly, her choice of date night attire.

Soon after Beckham shared the photos on Instagram, people noticed and pointed out that Heather’s outfit wasn’t appropriate. It would have been if she was with her husband, OBJ senior, but wearing a see-through dress when she was with her son did not sit well with them.

Who is Heather Van Norman, Odell Beckham Jr.’s mom?

Perhaps Beckham’s intention wasn’t to publicly shame her mom by sharing the post, but one thing is for sure: the 31-year-old loves her. In the 2018 docuseries ‘I Am More: OBJ,’ the Super Bowl winner claimed he was a ‘Momma’s boy.’

Odell Beckham Jr. said in one of the episodes:

My mom worked very, very hard to be able to provide everything for me. She put me in the best situation and made sure that I was always taken care [of] and that I was loved.

Heather was a star athlete during her college years. She was part of the University of Minnesota but later transferred to LSU and became the sensation of the track team (from 1991 to 1993). Under her leadership, the Lady Tigers won five national championships. When she graduated in 1994, Heather had racked up six All-American honors and three individual NCAA titles.
