A 16-year-old teenager was killed in a chaotic shooting incident at a high school football game in Oklahoma on Friday. The incident happened during the game between Del City and Choctaw. So far, the authorities have confirmed that one teenager has died and at least four others were injured in the chaotic shooting.
Game broadcast cameras captured the chaotic moment of players, coaches, and fans fleeing the stadium for cover after shots were fired during the game. “What is going on,” said one of the broadcasters as players and others were seen running away from the playing field. A few seconds later he realized what was going on as he said “We got people shooting… that’s crazy.” Check out the footage below.
According to multiple reports, the shooting happened approximately at 10:15 p.m. during the rivalry game between Choctaw and Del City at Choctaw’s home ground, Bill Jensen Field. Choctaw’s police chief, Kelly Marshall, revealed that at least 4 people were injured in the shooting.
“I know one younger, possibly high school student, was treated,” Marshall said during the press conference after the incident. The student reportedly suffered a thigh wound and has been released from the hospital. The status of the remaining three victims is unknown. The shooter is described as a “Black male with a gray hoodie” and three people were detained for questioning, but at the moment the cops don’t have a suspect in their custody.
Del City officer discharged his weapon per reports
Following the shooting incident that happened late Friday night, at least 35 officers from several departments rushed to the Bill Jenson Field, where the shooting happened. Del City police chief Loyd Berger talked with the press. He revealed that one of Del City’s officers discharged his firearm during the utterly chaotic moment in Choctaw.
“I know one of our officers was involved and discharged his weapon,” Berger said according to the New York Post. “As far as at who or if he hit anything, I really don’t know.”
Berger said that there was an off-duty cop on the sidelines during the game providing security. This unfortunate shooting incident that happened during a high school football game has been condemned by many people on social media.
Apart from this, there was also a separate shooting incident during the Chicago White Sox game, which resulted in two women being injured. The authorities didn’t know whether the shooting happened from inside or outside the stadium.
