The Pittsburgh Steelers have been going through multiple controversies since the last season. Amid those circumstances, the Steeler general manager Omar Khan has made a new statement. He announced that the team is presently targeting the quarterback Mason Rudolph, expecting him to re-sign for the next season.
According to a report by NBC Sports, the team has only one quarterback for the 2024 season and that is Kenny Pickett. The team is looking to strengthen the squad with some alternative options.
In a recent conversation via the team’s website, Khan shared some interesting updates on the possible transfer. He said:
We’re looking at everything. I have an obligation to this organization, to the players, to the front office, to every member of the Steeler nation, to look at every option and every way of trying to improve this team, and we’re going to do so.Omar Khan said
Mason Rudolph has already played for the Steelers. Even in the year 2023, he did log some minutes. The QB registered 719 yards with three touchdowns. The QB’s contract is over and he is on free agency. However, Khan is sure that he will be interested to come back into the squad for another time.
The Pittsburgh Steelers had multiple troubled incidents last year. The departure of Matt Canada attracted much controversy. In addition, the team also suffered due to the discomfort of WR George Pickens. Things went so bad that the HC Mike Tomlin had to intervene.
Conversation with Mason Rudolph’s agent is on, assured Khan
Amid these speculations, Khan claimed that the team is in talks with the quarterback’s agent. The management is hopeful that they will sign the quarterback for another season. Khan praised the mentality of Rudolph. He said that the QB would like to compete hard in the coming season as well.
Khan said:
We have been in communication with his representative, and he knows we want him back. It’s just the process, and I understand it, but we you know, we’d like to have him back, and they indicated a desire to see what’s out there beyond. I think every player kind of owes it to himself. At the end of the day, it’s a few weeks until the start of the league year. But I know we’d like to have him back, and I believe he wants to come back and compete. He likes it here, and we’ve had a good experience with Mason.Omar Khan added
The Pittsburgh Steelers missed the playoff spot last season. This season, they want to achieve postseason success. Hence, they are much more focused on the team building.
