Bo Nix capped another dominating performance, dropping 33 of 40 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns—rushed 31 yards and one touchdown—leading the No. 6-ranked Oregon Ducks to a 31-7 victory over the 15th-ranked Oregon State Beavers. Although he had a great game, one particular moment has convinced social media that Nix will win the Heisman Trophy this year.
With only 20 seconds left on the clock until the half-time break, the Ducks had possession on 2nd and 10. Following the snap, Nix avoided the Beavers’ blitz, picked his head up, and looked for one of his receivers.
He launched deep, close to the 15-year mark. Troy Franklin plucked the ball out of the air and turned his marker to score a 41-yard touchdown. It increased Oregon’s lead to 21-7 (Camden Lewis with the extra point) as the first half ended.
Social media convinced Bo Nix deserves the Heisman Trophy
It’s no surprise that the general populace thinks that Bo Nix should win the Heisman. He has been phenomenal this season, racking up a 90.8 quarterback rating. So far, he has completed 282 passes for 3539 yards, thrown 35 touchdowns, and received just 2 interceptions.
Not only that, of the top 10 players that are in the running for the best player in college football, Nix has the best completion rate (77.7%). After Friday night’s win, demand has once again risen.
The Ducks are bowl-bound, and Nix is quite possibly in the top 3 to win the Heisman. Now that last year’s winner, Caleb Williams, is most definitely out of the race, the LSU Tigers’ Jordan Daniels and the Florida State Seminoles’ Jordan Travis could be the other two alongside Nix. Yet there are several others who could stake their claims to be the ‘Best Player’ in college football. One of them will undeniably be Washington Huskie Michael Penix Jr. The other candidate is last season’s championship winner, Carsen Beck of the Georgia Bulldogs.
The Ducks still have one game remaining in the regular season. It’s against Penix’s Washington. The last time these two faced each other, the Huskies came out narrow victors (36-33). So the final day may decide who gets one step closer to writing their name in college history books.
