The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers are finally getting a divorce after dancing around the idea for the last two years. The Jets are in talks with the Packers to trade the 4x league MVP but looks like the compensation has been holding the move. Green Bay doesn’t want to pay any portion of Rodgers’ yearly salary and just wants to be done with it.
Just like every coin has two sides, there are two sides to every story, and it’s time to hear the Packers’ side of the story after the veteran quarterback shared his on The Pat McAfee Show a few days back. During the league’s annual meeting in Arizona, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst was asked by reporters what he had to say about Rodgers’s comments about “shopping” him.
Gutekunst said the team tried many times to contact the 49-year-old but never got any response from him. “Our inability to reach him or for him to respond in any way. I think at that point we just kind of had to — I had to do my job and reach out and understanding that a trade could be possible.”
Aaron Rodgers’s side of the story

A couple of weeks back, Aaron Rodgers appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and said he wanted to play for the Jets and has requested a trade from the Packers. Rodgers said the Packers wanted him back in Green Bay, despite a disappointing end to the 2022 season. At first, Rodgers said he learned that the front office was shopping him and later on added that he knew in the back of his mind that the team was ready to move on from him.
As per the Packers’ side, the franchise tried contacting him to find a solution for him to play under center and see how things fit but Rodgers kept on avoiding them. It’s abundantly clear that the relationship has come to an end and there is no point in trying to salvage it and push through. It’s best to cut ties and be happy on your own.
Gutekunst added, “Certainly whenever a player may have issues, you prefer that they talk to you directly and not do it in the media, but that’s not necessarily the way he goes about it and that’s OK.”
Finally, an 18-year journey that included 12 playoff appearances, five NFC Championship appearances, and one Super Bowl has come to an end. A win-win situation for all parties involved!
