“We’re not good enough,” Panthers HC Matt Rhule makes a BIG revelation about Baker Mayfield’s future as No.1 QB
The Carolina Panthers suffered their third defeat of the NFL 2022/23 season and this has raised several questions amidst the franchise. Their latest 26-16 defeat against the Arizona Cardinals came as they failed to hold onto a 10-3 half time lead.
Panthers head coach Matt Rhule admitted that his team have not played great football and he might have a tough call to make regarding his Baker Mayfield experiment. However, the head coach did not want to make a sudden call and wanted more time to himself before he pulls the rope.
Matt Rhule did not give an immediate response as to who would be his starting quarterback in Week 5
Matt Rhule claimed that he will give a well thought out answer after he has had a good look at the tapes of the three defeats that Panthers have suffered so far. Baker Mayfield has not set the world ablaze with his performances as the starting quarterback for his side and might have to sacrifice his position.
Over these last 4 matches, Baker Mayfield has aggregated three interceptions, completing just 54 percent of his passes and posting a QB rating of 74.98, one of the worst among active starters. He has thrown only 4 touchdowns giving Matt Rhule a big decision to make.
“I’m going to refrain from anything big picture until tomorrow,” Rhule said, per NFL.com. “At the end of the day, I’m on the headset, I see the things, I know that it’s never just one person here, one person there, it’s a lot of different things, so I’ll try to give you a really well-thought-out answer after watching tapes.”
“All that being said, I believe that we can play better than that. I just feel like we have to expect more from all of us as an offense, and it starts with me first.”We have to get it corrected,” Rhule continued, “but in terms of any one person I just don’t think it’s right to speak on it right now.”
“It just wasn’t good enough,” Rhule said in his press conference. “Offensively, I think we have to go back and look at everything and see what we can do better, see what we’re doing well, and try to fix what ails us right now, because it took a toll on us tonight.”
