“This league STINKS”: Pat McAfee has been PROHIBITED from using official NFL team logos despite having a rights deal

Pat McAfee is no longer allowed to use official team logos on the show.

The NFL is pretty complicated. The league does not appreciate individuals that live stream games or make good money off of it without its consent, which is why the concept of a rights deal exists. Top media channels pay the league up to millions of dollars just to be able to talk freely about the NFL and showcase top plays along with the official team logos. However, this particular instance is a bizarre one.

Legendary punter Pat McAfee, who has now made a good name for himself as a sports commentator, is one of the many media persons who has paid the NFL millions in order to be able to display team logos and names on his namesake show. However, the league has reportedly been attempting to cuff his hands by not letting him use the official team logos despite paying millions.

This may have just started off a war between the NFL and Pat McAfee as the sports commentator did not keep quiet, he threatened the league and stated he would consider pursuing guests and other prominent stories that would be damaging to the reputation of the NFL in return.

The Pat McAfee show pays an estimated $4 million in order to be able to air plays and highlights from the league’s games, however, it seems some legal counsel from the NFL has decided to rebuke Pat’s rights to use team logos on the graphics of his show.

Mocking the NFL, he went on a sarcastic rant in the latest iteration of his show. “The professional American Football league will finish its eighth week of its riveting primetime schedule as the Cincinnati Football Club(Cincinnati Bengals) travels to Cleveland to take on Cleveland’s Football Club(Cleveland Browns) and a lot of people might be asking, ‘…Why are you talking the way that you’re talking about the league that you’ve talked about for the last three years?”

Continuing, “The reason I’m doing so is because even though we currently have a rights deal with the NFL that costs millions and millions of dollars, we’ve been informed this morning that we are no longer allowed to use any of their logos on any of our graphics,” the former punter was quoted as saying.

Well, he cannot use official team logos but instead, he drew up his logos and players and put them in place of the official logos. He was clearly mocking the league but he does not have any other option apart from doing so either.

“It’s been great doing business with you. I’m happy we have covered your league in the way that we have for the last few years, I’m appreciative of the league and everything it’s done. I don’t think we’ve really touched on many subjects we could’ve dabbled into, and I think we’ll do that this offseason, FOR SURE. Things I know a lot about, that my friends know a lot about, like insurance and CTE and concussions. I think we can find some people to chat about, to learn more about what the NFL should be held accountable for and what they shouldn’t be held accountable for,” Pat concludes.

He was clearly sending a warning to the league that has been criticized for long over its lackluster insurance policy that at times denies claims or takes awfully too long to reimburse players for injuries they sustained on the field. We all know about the CTE aspect, which needs no further explanation. Fans were irked by the league’s decision on Twitter, with one user criticizing the league by stating, ‘This league STINKS.’

Will the NFL officially rebuke this ban on Pat McAfee in the near future? It remains to be seen but the latest edition of the show does have some official team logos on the thumbnails of the videos, so there may have been some positive talks between Pat and the league.
