Quinn Ewers proved that he can learn from his mistakes. The Texas Longhorns quarterback buried his past woes during dominating performances against the Alabama Crimson Tide, which Pat McAfee enjoyed from the broadcast booth.

It was arguably the biggest game in college football when the No. 11 Longhorns faced the No. 3 Bama. All eyes were on Ewers, but he missed the first shot of the night to receiver Xavier Worthy. But his second one was a thing of beauty.

Ewers, who struggled to throw deep balls against Rice, redeemed himself on the next play. The dynamic quarterback found Worthy with an accurate looping pass in the red zone for a 44-yard touchdown. In the presenter booth, Pat McAfee jumped in joy alongside Matthew McConaughey.

As the retired football star screamed in joy, McConaughey can be heard saying, “Come down here, come down here. Did we talk about the longball? Was that money? Was that money? That was right there, a hot damn live touchdown, Horns.”

After signing a multimillion-dollar deal with the ESPN network amidst all the layoffs, Pat McAfee’s popularity has grown significantly over time. He came into the spotlight as a punter for the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL. But he received recognition through his YouTube sports channel, The Pat McAfee Show. He was already a fan favorite because of his unconventional way of casting and presenting. Fans can relate to him easily because most will feel he represents their emotions on screen. He did just that when Ewers threw the peach ball.

Ewers needed to bounce back from a poor performance last time around when the two sides met. He was carted off due to an injury late on.

“I was super fired up for those guys, but obviously it didn’t end up how we wanted it,” he said after the game. “It’s tough being on the sidelines and watching your teammates get after it, and you’re not able to contribute.”

In the end, the Longhorns had the last laugh as they beat the Crimson Tide 34-24. Some would say it was an upset, but they played their hearts out. Next, they will face the Wyoming Cowboys on September 16.
