It's safe to say McAfee wants to start afresh at ESPN, but he reminded everyone that his fiery approach will stay the same.

ESPN laid off several notable faces late last month in order to cut down on the number of employees and their expenses worldwide. However, the network was already prepared beforehand, as they recruited one of the most prominent faces in open media. Even before the mass firings, they had signed Pat McAfee to a multimillion-dollar deal. But he came under fire as some accused McAfee of the cutoffs. Now the former NFL punter has hit back at some of the critics.

While appearing at the 2023 ESPYs, McAfee called out a few people by their names during his 12-minute monologue. He had previously spoken about all the negativity surrounding his signature, but this time was different. It was open season for the ex-Colt, as he did not hold back anymore.

McAfee started off by taking a dig at Hall of Famer Brett Favre. “We apologize. The sports world isn’t perfect. Sue us. Don’t actually. Shout out to Brett Favre,” said McAfee. Favre had sued McAfee for allegedly calling him ‘a thief’ on his show for being linked to the Mississippi welfare funds scandal earlier this year.

Moreover, Favre also sued then-Fox Sports 1 Undisputed host Shannon Sharpe for similar remarks. McAfee reminded Favre that he is not the only one who makes unintentional mistakes. After mentioning Favre, McAfee said, “That was for me. That was for me and Shannon Sharpe.” 

He did not even leave out Sharpe’s co-host, Skip Bayless. He targeted the veteran analyst and presenter for his tweet over Damar Hamlin‘s collapse during the Bills vs Bengals.”We all watched the situation unfold on Monday Night Football, fearing for the absolute worst. Skip Bayless was like, Get that dead body off the field.” Then he praised the medical team that performed CPR and saved Hamlin’s life. McAfee then advised Bayless, The tweet is still up. Hashtag #: delete the tweet. Skip.”

Pat McAfee was not finished, and after ranting for a few minutes about Brett Favre, Shannon Sharpe, and Skip Bayless, he turned his attention towards ChiefsAholic. The alleged Chiefs superfan wanted to watch Patrick Mahomes play, so he started robbing banks.

“Every once in a while, those sports will contribute some monsters to society. This year, the Kansas City Chiefs contributed, specifically Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.” McAfee pauses as the crowd applauds the Super Bowl winners. He continued after the claps stopped,” I don’t know if you’re going to cheer for this. a man who would put on a wolf mask, go into banks with a gun, and rob for money to watch these two (Mahomes and Kelce).”

While ChiefsAholic is under federal custody, McAfee seems to believe that this incident is not a one-off affair. But he prayed that if someone decides to copy, they should first think about the bank tellers and what they are going through.
