Mike Leach was a legendary coach whose impact on the sport far exceeds his record on the field. Leach primarily coached college football and was an influential figure during his time. The Michigan State coach passed away at the age of 61 due to heart-related problems. However, his impact on the sport will be remembered forever.

Many notable players and coaches had learned under Leach and he had also made lasting friendships with many coaches, most notably, Chiefs HC Andy Reid.

Mike Leach had visited the Eagles training camp when Reid was their HC, and that’s when their friendship bloomed and the two started to respect each other.

“Yeah, no, that was after me. I’m a little bit older, but I knew Mike (Leach),” said Reid on Wednesday to reporters in a press conference. “(He was a) good guy and very creative. He didn’t visit here, but he spent some time with us in Philadelphia during training camp a couple of different times and just a good guy. It’s a sad deal. He left a nice legacy behind him, for sure, for football. Like I said, very unique.”

Andy Reid also shared an interesting story about Mike Leach that involved the former President of the United States of America. The story was about Leach’s first meeting with Donald Trump in New York.

“I love the story he told me about Donald Trump,” Reid said. “We got talking about that, years ago even before Donald (Trump) was the president. And he goes, ‘Oh yeah, I was walking through New York. I saw the tower. Went up, introduced myself to him.’ Like it was no big deal (laughter).

Many people weren’t aware that Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ playing style is heavily influenced by Mike Leach. Although Mahomes has never trained under Leach, his teaching was brought to him by Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury.

The Cardinals HC used to play under the coaching of Leach in the Texas Tech college football team. Mahomes used to play for the same team and Leach’s teachings were brought to him through Kingsbury.

The Super Bowl winner also paid tribute to Mike Leach in his recent press conference and stated how the legendary coach helped him develop a new playing style.

Mike leach was truly a legend of the game who influenced many great players and coaches with his indisputable and revolutionary playing style. His impact on the NFL will never be forgotten and will be remembered forever.
