The Bengals and Chiefs’ rivalry tale has gone on for a long time, but their recent probing may have lifted the lid off their thriller battle. Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and his teammate Travis Kelce have the perfect comeback prepared for the “Burrowhead” talk.
Following their win against Cincinnati Bengals, the Chiefs let them know who rules the Kansas City Chiefs stadium. The Bengals at one point started calling the stadium “Burrowhead Stadium” in reference to their quarterback, Joe Burrow’s dominance in this fixture.
Their scrum peaked when Cincinnati mayor Aftab Pureval joked about whether Burrow was Mahomes’ father. Though the Chiefs refrained from any online outrage, Mahomes’ wife destroyed the mayor with just a two-word tweet.
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce destroy Bengals during the post-game interview
During the post-game interview question shifted from asking about Patrick Mahomes’ angle injury to the “Burrowhead Stadium” noise.
Mahomes commented to CBS, “I want to thank God, man. He healed my body this week to battle through that. He gave me the strength to be out here.” Travis Kelce interrupted his interview stating, “Burrowhead, my a**! It’s Mahomes’ house! It’s not Burrowhead out here.”
Though Mahomes didn’t blast off compared to his teammate, he made his point clear quietly, “We showed this place that it’s Arrowhead, it’s not Burrowhead out here,” he stated, “I don’t think we have any cigars, but we’ll be ready to go at the Super Bowl”.
His cigars reference was noted back to Joe Burrow and his teammates habit of smoking cigars after big wins. During the presentation ceremony after their big win, Chiefs’ tight end Travis mentioned mayor Aftab’s jab noting, “I got some wise words for that Cincinnati mayor: Know your role and shut your mouth, you jabroni!”
The Chiefs’ latest win will bring them to their third Super Bowl game in four years. The whole Mahomes vs. Burrow talk has been put on pause, at least for now since their actions have done the speaking for them.
The Kansas City Chiefs, being a proud team, certainly didn’t take the Cincinnati Bengals’ jabs in a calm way, and the post-game interview was enough to prove it.
