Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have won the divisional round of the NFL playoffs yet again. The team has made the AFC title game where they will now face the Cincinnati Bengals to determine who makes the Super Bowl. While Kansas City may have won the game, it was not an easy victory for the team. It did come with its own share of uncertain moments.

Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, the man around whom the entire offense revolves, gave fans a major scare early in the game when Jaguars’ pass rusher Arden Key ended up landing on his ankle in the first half of the game. He was immediately taken into the locker room for further evaluation and while he was gone, Chiefs’ fans were holding their breath as they were uncertain if the QB would return to the field.

Mahomes would have found no issue in playing through the pain, however, the coaching staff compelled him to leave the field. Following the game, the QB spoke in detail about his injury and gave an update on how his ankle felt.

Speaking to NBC’s Melissa Stark, here’s what Mahomes had to say, “I did not want to go and they kind of gave me the ultimatum that I wasn’t going back in unless I went in there. They’re trying to take care of me, we got a lot of great people here but it’s going to take a lot to keep me out of a football game.”

Speaking on his injury diagnosis, here’s what Mahomes stated. “The X-rays are negative and the diagnosis, I’ll be good to go.” That is a major relief for Chiefs’ fans knowing Mahomes is fine. Following his departure, backup Chad Henne was entrusted with the task of holding things together for KC, and to his credit, he did great.

While Mahomes ended the game with 195 yards and 2 touchdowns, Henne went 5/7 on the field, threw for 23 yards, and had a touchdown. Not bad for a backup in the playoffs! Patrick Mahomes will need to be healthy in order for his team to make and have a shot at winning the Super Bowl. The one thing fans know for certain about him is that no matter how painful an injury, he will find a way to play through it or around it!
