This year, Christmas Eve is going to be jam-packed with three crucial matchups scheduled for the day. Starting with the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Las Vegas Raiders at 1:00 p.m. ET sharp. However, when quarterback Patrick Mahomes was asked for his excitement towards the Monday game, he reflected some mixed feelings.
In a recent conversation with Pro Football Talk, the Chiefs’ star quarterback shared he is both “excited” as well as “a little disappointed,” at the same time. As the team is hosting the Raiders at their home stadium, Mahomes has to miss spending the holiday with his family.
I think it’s two things--I’m excited because you get that standalone [game]. You get to play at Arrowhead [Stadium] at 12:00.
Mahomes, who is married to Brittany Mahomes and has a two-year-old daughter and one-year-old son together, further added,
I mean, everybody’s gonna be just opening presents and getting the food in them and then they’re going to be the happiest they possibly can be, and they’re gonna turn on and see the Kansas City Chiefs playing. So I’m excited about that.
In spite of that, there’s another aspect to this matchup that is on Christmas Eve, and unfortunately, Mahomes and the whole team have to be in Kansas City.
I’m a little disappointed I’m going to miss Christmas Eve with my kids and Christmas morning and miss Santa coming.
But there’s a good thing as well, as Mahomes will get to spend the evening with his kids and wife, and open presents with them. He feels excited about that, but he’ll definitely
miss the kids a little bit but we’ll celebrate after the game’s over.
Chiefs bounced back from slump beating Patriots 27-17 in week 15
The Chiefs seem to have gotten back on their winning track, after a dazzling victory over the New England Patriots by 27-17. The reigning Super Bowl champions faced a rough patch earlier when they suffered a losing streak for two straight games. But they have broken that off.
Quarterback Mahomes logged 27 completions for 307 yards along with two touchdowns but also two interceptions. But that victory improved the Chiefs’ standing to a 9-5, leading the AFC West. And with that, they are two wins ahead of the Denver Broncos for claiming the divisional title.
Meanwhile, for the top seed in the conference, they are behind two games from the Baltimore Ravens, standing at 11-3. In the coming three weeks, the Chiefs are set to face the Raiders, Cincinnati Bengals, and Las Vegas Chargers.
