The Cincinnati Bengals recently made their star quarterback Joe Burrow the highest-paid NFL player of all time by signing him to a historic deal just days ahead of the 2023 regular season. Apart from Burrow, three other quarterbacks also signed massive contract extensions in the off-season. And now, the 2022 league MVP QB Patrick Mahomes has gotten his dues as he restructured his contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs restructured Mahomes’ 10-year deal that he signed back in 2020. And now, the star quarterback will get paid $210.6 million between 2023-2026, the most money in the league’s history in the span of four years. Mahomes’ compensation for those years is now guaranteed according to Equity Sports CEO Chris Cabott, who negotiated the deal on behalf of Patrick Mahomes.
The Kansas City-based football team plans to revisit the contract in 2026 to give the quarterback another opportunity to make more money according to that year’s QB market. Mahomes signed a 10-year deal worth $450 million back in 2020. No player in the NFL has gotten more money than Mahomes when it comes to total value.
However, many QBs, including Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert surpassed Mahomes in the annual average salary with their record deals. Mahomes was the 9th highest paid quarterback in the NFL before he restructured his contract now he is one of the top-paid signal-callers in the league.
This contract restructure comes just days after Burrow signed his historic deal with the Bengals. Burrow signed a 5-year deal worth up to $275 million, including nearly $220 million in guaranteed money.

Patrick Mahomes has had a rough start to his 2023 season
The Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a historic campaign last year where he broke multiple QB records and won the league MVP, Super Bowl MVP, and the championship ring.
He was expected to continue his historic run in 2023, but the All-Pro QB has had a shaky start to his 2023 campaign for his standards. Mahomes struggled a lot against the Detroit Lions in week 1, where he completed only 53.8% of his pass attempts and threw an interception.
But he showed a lot of improvement in week 2 games and completed 70.7% of his passes. But he still threw an interception. Nonetheless, there is still a lot of time left in the season for Mahomes to turn around his campaign and have yet another historic year in the ongoing season.
