The Las Vegas Raiders‘ recent firing of Head Coach Josh McDaniels along with GM Dave Ziegler and offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi amplified the greatness of Bill Belichick even more. It showed crystal clear that the Patriot Way would fail to work unless he was at the helm of it.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler cited the reasons for the failure of the Patriot Way in the Raiders organization. Josh McDaniels’ philosophy and schedule led to players feeling “overworked in some cases,” the analyst reported.
The logic was black and white.
If the lights were on in the building, people should be there working.
Fowler goes on to add,
I get the sense that people skills and culture were primary issues- and ones that essentially plagued McDaniels in two coaching stops.
Josh McDaniels implemented the lessons he learned observing Bill Belichick in his tenure at New England. However, the results he got were far from what he desired.
Josh McDaniels had lost the respect from players in the locker room
The report further elaborates that Josh McDaniels practically begged players and the front office to trust him and that it was only a matter of time before the moves he made would reap rewards.
Players know. And if all you're ever telling them is, 'I know better,' you're going to lose them pretty quick.a source told Dan Graziano of ESPN
The last supper for McDaniels on the Raiders witnessed an intense standoff between him, his players, and owner Mark Davis. Everyone came clean about what they truly thought and how they felt about his system.
Josh McDaniels may never get another gig as a head coach in the NFL again, as he made history by becoming the only coach in league history to be fired by two different franchises before the end of his second season.
The difference without McDaniels is pretty evident. In the team’s first game with Antonio Pierce at the helm as an interim HC, the Raiders blew out the New York Giants and showed that it was not that they did not know how to play but that they just did not want to play under McDaniels any longer.
