“Time to retire old man!” – Patriots fans finally lose their patience with HC Bill Belichick after loss humiliating to Tommy DeVito-led Giants
Social media is convinced that Patriots lost the game on purpose so they can get advantage in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Social media has seen enough; they want Bill Belichick to call it quits as the New England Patriots lose another game. While this one won’t feel too bad considering it was against a direct rival for an early draft pick—the New York Giants—a loss is a loss.
New England could have won the game late on. With under 10 seconds left on the lock, only 35 yards separated them from a victory. 2023 fourth-round pick Chad Ryland jogged onto the field with a tense face. He measured the trajectory, and as the referee gave the green signal, he took the spot kick.
Unfortunately, the ball missed the post by some distance. Time ran out with the scoreboard stopped at 10-7, and the Giants won their fourth game of the season.
It did not go down well with social media, especially with Patriots fans, who are tired of seeing their team lose week after week. However, a section of it speculated that Bill Belichick tanked the game on purpose.
Is it over for Bill Belichick?
There’s a gulf of difference between what the New England Patriots used to be a decade ago and what they have been reduced to in recent years. One does not need to go that far to recall their success; they won their latest Super Bowl just four years ago, in 2019.

However, let’s not forget that Tom Brady was their quarterback during their glory days. Since he left for Tampa, Belichick cannot, for the life of him, mend the gaping hole the three-time NFL MVP left in the middle of the Patriots offense.
Since Brady’s departure, they have a record of 27 wins and 35 losses (including yesterday’s defeat to the Giants). Belichick is under immense pressure, and his every move is being scrutinized, not just by the fans but also by the owner, Robert Kraft.
Apart from the 2021 season and quarterback Mac Jones‘ debut campaign, in which he made the Pro Bowl, the Patriots season keeps getting worse. Not only that, Jones seemed to be regressing as time passed. The 25-year-old in 2023 will have more interceptions (12) than touchdowns (10), and he is third in turning the ball over (14). It is not a great outlook for someone who was drafted to replicate Brady.
Now back to Belichick. While the demand for him to retire is gaining popularity, considering he did mention once that he will not coach beyond 70 years old, he is currently 71, and according to insider reports, he would move to someplace else rather than move away from football. There are even a couple of destinations that experts believe will suit his profile.
Possible destinations for Bill Belichick
The first name on the list is the Los Angeles Chargers (4-7), and the second is the Washington Commanders (4-8). Both Brandon Staley and Ron Rivera are on the hotspot and are rumored to see the door very soon.
However, the Chargers seem to be the better landing spot of the two. With former highest-paid player Justin Herbert (2826 yards, 20 TDs, and 6 interceptions in 2023) as their quarterback, it seems to be a no-brainer.
LA’s biggest drawback is a leaky defense, despite having players such as Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa. Belichick is known to have a great mind when it comes to coaching defenses, so it’s a win-win situation for both.
