The New England Patriots have gone from the NFL’s longest-reigning dynasty to its worst team in recent years. The Bill BelichickTom Brady duo in New England caused havoc for two decades.

However, since the three-time league MVP moved to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, the Patriots have struggled to reach the playoffs. This year, with Mac Jones as the team’s starting QB, the Patriots have a record of 2-9 and are nowhere near the playoff picture.

Jones hasn’t had a great start to his Patriots career. After leading the team to a playoff appearance in his rookie season, the QB has failed to repeat that success. He has been benched multiple times this season, and his future with the Patriots looks bleak. Belichick was recently asked about drafting Jones in the first round back in 2021.

Organizationally, we thought it was the right thing to do. Collectively, we were all for that.
Belichick said on Monday morning during his appearance The Greg Hill Show

Jones was benched for the fourth time this season on Sunday against the New York Giants. He threw for 89 yards and two interceptions before being replaced by backup QB Bailey Zappe. He also fumbled the ball once against the Giants.

Jones, so far this season, has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns and hasn’t produced consistently for the team. He has regressed considerably and has a passer rating of just 77. The Patriots lost the game against the Giants on Sunday, 10-7. It is unclear if Belichick will play Jones in their next game.

Bill Belichick ‘can’t remember’ when he told Mac Jones he’d start against the Giants

The New England Patriots are stuck in an unfortunate QB situation. Their 2021 first-round draft pick, Mac Jones, has been awful for them, and their backup QB, Bailey Zappe, hasn’t fared much better either.

The starting QB slot was in debate before the Patriots’ latest game against the New York Giants. Bill Belichick revealed that he ‘can’t remember’ when he told Jones that he would start on Sunday.

I can’t remember. Sometime during the week.

Jones was benched after throwing two interceptions and was replaced by Zappe. The backup QB ended up throwing a pick of his own as the Giants won a low-scoring game.

The Patriots are 2-9 so far this season. They are on a four-game losing streak and have been struggling offensively. In their last nine games, the Patriots have averaged 11.9 points per game, which is a historically low mark. They will play their next game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
