Bill Belichick, the head coach of the New England Patriots, has no answer to what happened against his team in the games against the New Orleans Saints. The team lost by a margin of 34-0! This is the largest defeat that Bill Belichick had to swallow in his long and illustrious career. A week ago, the Patriots lost against the Dallas Cowboys by a margin of 38-3. It was a 35-point loss for the Patriots. After two consecutive huge losses, the Patriots manager said that he wants to start afresh.
Well, it is really unclear whether it is possible to have a fresh start in the league at this point. The Patriots played five games and won just one. The season seems over for them as it is nearly impossible to make it to the playoffs after four losses.
“Obviously, it was a poor performance today here,” Belichick said after the game on Sunday. “Plain and simple, we’ve got to find a way to play and coach better than that. So let’s go start all over and get back on a better track than we’re on right now. Slow start, and then just couldn’t, could never really get the game under control.”
Despite the horrible result, Belichick is confident that his team can do it as he has done it before. However, the reputation doesn’t seem easy as earlier he had a quarterback like Tom Brady who provided his best for the Patriots. This season, Belichick is playing with Mac Jones who is struggling with his form.
Questions are circling around Bill Belichick’s coaching abilities
Bill Belichick is considered one of the greatest footballing minds ever. Some also consider him the greatest ever. However, a lot of questions are coming from all corners. Analysts, despite acknowledging his greatness, suspected his ability without Tom Brady.
In one of the episodes of Speak, analyst Emmanuel Acho raised this question. He compared Belichick with other NFL greats and said that Belichick never won anything without his star QB, unlike others.
Former quarterback Robert Griffin III on his part said that Mac Jones is suffering because of Belichick’s poor strategy. “For me, this comes down to coaching. In year two, Bill Belichick messed up his young quarterback. When you give him a defensive coordinator and a special teams coordinator as his offensive coordinator, and now he’s on his third offensive coordinator in three years in the NFL, that to me is the epitome of a coaching malpractice,” the analyst said.
