Last week, the former New England Patriots‘ legendary quarterback Tom Brady announced that he was retiring from the league for good. Following his retirement, many players paid tribute to the 45-year-old QB. And now, during his weekly podcast, Let’s Go with Jim Gray, their guest, and former Colts QB Peyton Manning revealed a spicy story about his decision to stay in the AFC after leaving the Colts.
Peyton Manning and Tom Brady shared one of the most intense rivalries in all of sports history. Although during the latter years, Brady made himself arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, in the earlier years, it was Manning who was considered the better signal-caller. Even now, some experts believe and rate Peyton Manning over Brady as a pure pocket passer, but Brady’s achievements and accolades surpass Manning’s.
Anyhow, during the tail end of his career, Peyton Manning suffered a neck injury that sidelined him during the 2011 season and eventually led the Indianapolis Colts to cut him from their roster. After that, Manning signed with the Denver Broncos and helped them win the AFC West division title for all four seasons he was part of their team. Moreover, he ended his career on a high note after leading the Broncos to a victory over the Carolina Panthers at Super Bowl 50 making him a two-time Super Bowl Champion.

On Monday, Brady released the latest episode of his weekly Let’s Go podcast, however, this week was a bit special since it was the first episode since Brady’s retirement. Some of the guests in the episode were Peyton Manning, the Patriots HC Bill Belichick, and former Patriots and Buccaneers TE Rob Gronkowski.
During the episode, Manning revealed the story about why he decided to stay in the AFC Conference despite getting few opportunities from a couple of NFC teams.
“I easily could’ve gone to a couple of NFC teams. I played against Tom a bunch and I knew eventually you’re gonna have to play them. Let me at least try to earn it,” Manning said during a recent episode of the Let’s Go podcast.
Well, his decision to stay in the AFC Conference turned out to be a good one as he and his Broncos were able to beat Tom Brady and the Patriots in two consecutive AFC Championship games in 2015 and 2016.
