During the 2023 regular season, the Las Vegas Raiders shockingly fired their head coach, Josh McDaniels, following his terrible tenure. The organization promoted their second-year linebackers coach, Antonio Pierce to be their new interim head coach.
And now, the Raiders officially announced on Friday that they are removing the interim tag from Antonio Pierce’s title and promoted him to be their full-time head coach. The Raiders shared a post on their social media profile and crossed out the word interim in the caption to announce the promotion.
After taking over as the interim head coach, Pierce changed the locker room culture and led the Raiders to a 5-4 record in 9 games. He also led the Raiders to cause multiple upset victories in his great run to end the season, including a victory against the Super Bowl contenders Kansas City Chiefs.
Furthermore, after the Raiders defeated their AFC West division rivals Denver Broncos in their final regular season game, owner Mark Davis reportedly told ESPN that he was very excited about the job Pierce did after taking over the team in midseason.
Apart from impressing the owner, the interim head coach also inspired the players and received massive support from the fans. At one stage, the Raiders’ star edge rusher Maxx Crosby threatened to request a trade if the Raiders didn’t promote Pierce to be a full-time head coach. That’s how much he is loved by his players in Las Vegas.
Under Pierce, the Raiders played a clean game and led the league in the least points allowed per game. They also had the most defensive touchdowns and fewest penalties during the time Pierce worked as the interim head coach of the Las Vegas-based football team. Now, Antonio Pierce has gotten the reward for the great job he did in the last few months.

Nonetheless, Antonio Pierce now has a lot to figure out in the off-season. He has to assemble his coaching staff and has to make a decision on the quarterback position. Pierce would look to build a strong roster to be able to compete in the tough AFC West division.
