Despite their decent 3-5 record through the first 8 weeks of the 2023 NFL regular season, the Las Vegas Raiders have been a very dysfunctional team under their head coach Josh McDaniels. Players have been visibly upset and there are many teams that have expressed their frustrations with the team’s current situation.

Amidst this, the Raiders have decided they are done with McDaniels. According to multiple reports, the Las Vegas-based football team has fired their head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager David Ziegler. The Raiders owner Mark Davis released a statement late Tuesday night confirming the firing of McDaniels and Ziegler.

After much thought about what the Raiders need to move forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave. I want to thank them both for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best.
Davis said in a statement on Tuesday.

This move from the Raiders comes after they started the season with a 3-5 record. Last week, reports suggested that the Las Vegas-based organization conducted an open meeting with McDaniels and players were allowed to voice out their frustrations. Many suspect that the meeting could’ve played a role in the firing of McDaniels and Ziegler.

Josh McDaniels has been the head coach of the Raiders for the last 2 years. Last season, he led the Raiders to a 6-11 record. Now, he has been fired after just 8 weeks of the 2023 regular season. In his tenure as the Raiders head coach, McDaniels registered 9 wins and 16 losses.

Zeigler has also been with the team for just over a year. He was appointed as the general manager of the Raiders in January 2022 and now he has been fired by the team.

Who will fill the shoes of Josh McDaniels in Las Vegas?

The Raiders parted ways with their second-year head coach Josh McDaniels and GM David Ziegler on Tuesday. And now, they seemingly enter a rebuild mode with a new leader calling the shots in 2024.

But before that, to ride out the rest of the season, the Raiders are expected to appoint linebackers coach Antonio Pierce as their interim head coach according to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter. However, owner Mark Davis hasn’t commented on it yet.

On the sporting side of things, the Raiders look to register a victory against fellow strugglers New York Giants, who they are scheduled to face in their week 9 game this Sunday. The team will look to make a statement by securing a victory amidst this chaotic situation.
