Looks like Mark Davis doesn’t let money come in between when it comes to his franchise, the Las Vegas Raiders. Recently, the Raiders made quite the headlines for firing their head coach Josh McDaniels, and general manager Dave Ziegler, right in the middle of this season when the team still had around eight games to play.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports, this abrupt firing didn’t come in handy or cheap to Davis. It cost him a whopping $85 million, which certainly makes it “an expensive move” by the franchise, even though some costs may have been counteracted or mitigated.

Through these reports, it’s quite clear that Davis was truly disappointed in McDaniels and Ziegler. Assuming, after exploring all possible options, firing the HC, GM, and some of the coaching staff came out as a personal apology to the team. For Davis, it seemed like his top-notch priority was creating a winning team. This intense move by the Raiders owner was encouraged after the 26-17 loss against the Detroit Lions, on Monday Night. After this, Davis assembled the Raiders players to personally apologize for “wasting their season.” He also revealed to them the necessary change within the organization.
After letting go of McDaniels, the Raiders have now named Antonio Pierce as interim head coach for the remaining games of this season. With that being said, the Raiders are now undertaking a new path with revised management, under a new starting quarterback and the head coach. As the Raiders have lost their second consecutive game against a notable NFC North opponent, the team needs to score a win against the New York Giants in Week 9, if they want to continue in the AFC playoff race.
What happened to the Raiders in the game against the Lions?
The Lions slammed the Raiders with a 26-17 victory, which most likely seemed like a one-sided game. Raiders were totally outperformed by the Lions by 329 yards and dominating the field with their offense.

Raiders on the other side had a terrible offensive side, mainly outside of a second-quarter touchdown drive that was led by Josh Jacobs. Their quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo hardly made any contributions and only completed 10 passes. He missed out on the wide-open Davante Adams on multiple crucial points in the game.
Adams’ 11-yard performance could have been the winning factor for the Raiders, but only if the quarterback had backed him up. The star WR was truly disappointed after the game as he threw his helmet on the sideline in the fourth quarterback. Garoppolo has been benched for the remaining season and rookie Aidan O’Connell has been named the starting QB.
